Tom Nelson, Economic Development Director
Tom Nelson is the Economic Development Manager for the City of Corvallis-Benton County. He is in charge of helping businesses find resources they need to be successful in Corvallis-Benton County. Whether starting, growing, or re-locating, he fosters connections to enhance entrepreneurship, a culture of innovation and a positive business climate.
In collaboration with such teams as Willamette Innovators Network, Oregon State University Accelerator/ OSU RAIN, and a large network of people and programs, his vision is to help grow the traded sector job base, maintain the regions excellent quality of life, and to preserve the natural beauty that the region offers.
He previously worked in the same capacity for the City of Sherwood. Tom spent 25 years in the private sector, working 22 years as a plant manager for Air Products & Chemicals, Inc, a Fortune 500 industrial gas manufacturer at its Millersburg location.
Tom served on the Albany City Council for 11 years, and worked part-time for 12 years at the Linn Benton Community College SBDC as a business adviser and trainer. He also served as the Small Business Development Center Director at Chemeketa Community College for three years before being hired by the State of Oregon where he worked for seven years as a Finance Officer and Community Development Coordinator for the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department (now Business Oregon).
Tom has been in numerous leadership positions at the Oregon Economic Development Association, Association of Oregon Redevelopment Agencies, and the Portland-Vancouver Regional Partners for Economic Development.
Tom is a graduate of both, Linn Benton Community College and Oregon State University, where he received his MBA. He is also a member of the OSU Alumni Association.
