Win Shark Tank 2018
Our friends over at Willamette Innovators Network (WiN) hosted their annual Shark Tank on April 10th at the beautiful venue that is the Vue Corvallis. Each year, WiN brings together the entrepreneurs of Corvallis to showcase their business ideas for a chance to be automatically entered into the Willamette Angel Conference. This year, 4 startups pitched their ingenious business ideas at Shark Tank.
Among the 4 startups to pitch their ideas were UPLE, Wisedoc, PersonaMed and Physico. The judges, Dan Whitaker, Caroline Cummings and Skip Rung, had a tough decision to make after the 4 groups thoroughly impressed the audience with their presentations. The Shark Tank Judge Panel was comprised of entrepreneurial experts. Dan Whitaker is a serial entrepreneur, member at Oregon Angel Fund and previous WiN president. Caroline Cummings is the interim Executive Director and Venture Catalyst for Oregon Regional Accelerator & Innovation Network (Oregon RAIN) and Skip Rung is the President and Executive Director of Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI). While each startup left an impression among the judges and audience, there could only be one winner (and one runner-up)!
The winner, Wisedoc, took home both a winning certificate and entry to the Willamette Angel Conference. Wisedoc’s mission is to make publishing academic articles seamless through their word processing app. The runner-up, Physico, left with a 3-month co-working space at Corvallis Foundry. Physico intends to make the painful process of physical therapy easier with their app that features at-home guided exercises which eliminates the annoying and costly process of going back and forth to your physical therapist.
The support for startups shown at WiN’s 2018 Shark Tank was a reminder to Corvallis’ entrepreneurs and business-minded individuals that their community is one in which their business can flourish. WiN’s mission is to host events that serve as this reminder and to create a community in which Benton County’s entrepreneurs can connect and potentially collaborate with one another. Be sure to check out their next event in May, which is a PubTalk surrounding the topic of Fermentation—Wine, beer & spirits, Oh my!!
