What is the Empower Benton County E-Bike program?

The Empower Benton County E-Bike program looks to incentivize the purchase and use of electric bikes in our community. The program provides rebates to qualified, pre-approved individuals for the purchase of an e-bike. The funds for the rebates were provided through a grant from Pacific Power and the Oregon Clean Fuels Program.

What is an e-bike?

An electric bike, or “e-bike”, is like a traditional bicycle, but it has a rechargeable electric motor that helps the rider go faster with less effort. Most e-bikes have pedal assist, which means that when you pedal, the e-bike gives you a boost. Some e-bikes have a throttle so that you don’t have to pedal at all.

Why would I want an e-bike?

There are so many reasons, where do we start? Here are just a few reasons that e-bikes are awesome:

E-bikes allow you to go faster and farther than you would on a traditional bicycle

You don’t need a drivers’ license to own and ride an e-bike

They are easier to ride than a traditional bike so people of all fitness levels can use them as their main mode of transportation

They are better for the environment than gas powered cars

They are cheaper to own and maintain than a car

Who can participate in the Empower Benton County program?

You are eligible for the program if you can answer “yes” to the following three questions:

(1) Do you live in Benton County, Oregon?

(2) Is Pacific Power the electricity provider for your home?

(3) Do you have a family income of 80% area median income or less? Not sure if you do? Check out this chart.

If you answered “yes” to all of those three questions, you are eligible to fill out an application for the program.

So how can I apply?
