The day will be full of exciting pitches from Oregon startups, entrepreneurial and angel awards, and a dynamic female keynote speaker who recently sold a majority share of her Portland-based company for nearly $40M. The day will end with a high-energy reception attracting nearly 400 business leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs. Jim Coonan

Hello RAIN Stakeholders:

There has been a lot of activity across the RAIN region from preparations for moving into the permanent home for RAIN Eugene, to launching of new programs in Corvallis, to outreach efforts in Newport, Florence, Albany and Springfield. We also have begun discussions with Business Oregon on how RAIN should fit into the state’s economic development plans in the next biennium. We believe entrepreneurial efforts is an important third leg of the economic development stool, along with opportunistic recruitment and retention. We further believe in the state playing a key role in supporting entrepreneurs through entities like RAIN to help build a sustainable and innovative economy in Oregon.

We additionally need our local communities need to pitch in and help as well – and they have – by matching every $1.00 from the state with $1.40 from the region with big contributions from both OSU and UO, counties, cities, foundations, private sector companies, and like minded business organizations. One such example is how we now have fully funded our Venture Catalyst position (Caroline Cummings) for the current biennium with support from Business Oregon, Lane County, Benton County, Linn County, City of Eugene, Oregon Community Foundation, Palo Alto Software, Vox Communications, and Concentric Sky. I call that regional support! Thanks to everyone who supports RAIN both with dollars and collaboration!
